Slovenia Tour

Slovenia is favorite with guests from Germany, Austria and Italy. Still relatively calm, Slovenia is a sloppy land of mountains, lakes, forest and splendid country. The capital city is Ljubljana (not as complicated to say as it looks!), setting of Paulo Coehlo’s best-selling book Veronika Decides to Die. Like many historical capital cities, Ljubljana is based on an old town and a new town. In the old town, the beautifully-preserved buildings display a mix of architectural styles – most prominently Baroque and Art Nouveau.

Lake Bled

Lake Bled is one of the most favorite sites for travellers who travel to Slovenia and likely of the Slovenians themselves as well. The lake and the town (which is called Bled as well) are beautifully set in the Julian Alps. On the lake itself is a small island where a little church can be found out, nearly comprising the whole island. There are lots of boats that can bring you there and the views are extraordinary. The views are equally extraordinary when you rise the hills to the Bled Castle, from where you can see the lake and little church from a distance. A very romantic place, but in the high season months an absolutely crowded places as well. Therefore, it is best to travel to in May/June or in September.

Skocjan Caves

The Skocjan Caves are one of the high spots of the country. The Skocjan caves are an unbelievable system of limestone caves and forms some 6 km of underground passageways with a total depth of more than 200 meters. There are many waterfalls and one of the world’s biggest underground chambers. The site is located in the Kras region (which means karst) and is most likely one of the best in the world for the exploration of karstic phenomena. For this factor, it is the only place in Slovenia which is set on the Unesco World Heritage List.

Ljubljana

The next place I suggest visiting is Ljubljana, that is the Slovenian capital. It is about 45 minutes drive from Bled. In Ljubljana there are many ways to invest your time. I suggest walking through the old city centre and taking a ride on the funicular railway to Ljubljana Castle. You can go up the castle tower where you can see the entire city and beyond. If you like nature you can take a walk in Tivoli Park that is near the city centre. If you like shopping you can visit BTC City with hundreds of shops. There are also cinemas (3D), Atlantis Water Park (with lots of pools, water attractive features, saunas …), The Millennium Sport Centre and much more. When you finish shopping or other activities it is nice to relax in the old city centre near the Ljubljanica river where there are many bars. I suggest you spend the night somewhere there.

On the final day you can go to the seaside. It takes about 1 hour to get via the motorway. On the way there you can stop to see the world renowned Postojna Cave or the Skocjan Caves. It is difficult to say which one is best to go through. In the Postojna Cave there is an attractive train ride. However, I like better the Skocjan Caves slightly more because there are more awesome views. After experiencing the caves you can drive further to see the old Mediterranean city of Piran. Take a walk around the several narrow streets and climb to the top of the church belfry or the Town Walls above the city. When you get tired you can sit down, watch the sea and eat some seafood. When you have enough, you can progressively drive back to the airport and catch the plane.

In a winter time it is the best choice to a good and low-priced holidays. Slovenia offers you more than fifteen quality ski resorts that you can all travel to in few days because of small distance between them. A great hotels and winter resorts will make your vacation even better that you could ever think of.
